Introduction to Hankai

English Only Day

As we all know, most of us are studying in the Domestic classes, which means we don’t have as many chances as the International students to speak English. In order to improve our spoken English and give us more chances to practise English, the English Teaching and Researching group has designed a challenging and interesting task for us. That is why we will have a Hankai English Only Day.

From now on, every Friday will be an English Only Day. We must speak English either in class or after class. If your English is not good enough, use body language. After all, Chinese is strictly forbidden. As well we encourage teachers to join, especially subjects like Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Every class will have a group of people who look and listen carefully for Chinese spoken. However, they won’t come from your own class. Every student who failed to speak English all day will be recorded and randomly punished.

Despite punishments, we also have prizes. The English only Day includes three main activities, English Only, English corner and English Daily. Each time we have a winner, who shows his or her English best. They will be honored as an English Hero and presented with an Excellent Speaker emblem. Moreover, at the end of every term, 3 top classes and 10 top students in speaking English will be presented with a certification and a prize. Feeling flipped? Then join us on the English Only Day!

汉开“英语日”

在目前国内的教学环境下，许多学生学习了多年的英语都是哑巴英语。为了使汉开书院的孩子们在纯正的英语氛围中学习，更好地在学习和生活中运用英语，从本学期初开始，我校小学部与初中部全体同学和老师即将开启一项充满趣味的挑战——English Only Day。

本活动由小学部和初中部英语组发起，鼓励全体老师和同学执行，每周固定周五这天时间作为“English Only Day”，老师们和同学们在“英语日”必须全天候使用英语和肢体语言进行交流。对于大多数学生来说，使用英语学习和生活是一项极大的挑战；对于老师们尤其是理科老师来说，纯英文授课同样是历练与提升。

为此，我们将举办英语日“English Only校园英语口语”、“English corner英语角”和“English Daily每日英语展示”三类活动，每月评选优胜班级和每班Excellent Speaker，并给予“流动旗帜和徽章”奖励，旨在鼓励同学开口说英语很重要，面对挑战，展现全英交流的勇气和决心。

所有老师和由各班英文代表组成的English Only督查小组，在课上、课间及各类活动中进行巡查并记录。在期末之际，我们将根据整个学期的统计与观察，评选出各年级团体奖（本学期获得流动班级旗帜最多次数Top3）和个人奖（本学期获得徽章最多Top10），并颁发证书及奖品。另外，每月的Excellent Speaker个人与班级都会在学校宣传栏进行展示，并实时积分进行排名。
